A cubic centimetre is exactly a millilitre — not approximately, by definition — so "cc to grams" is the same question as "mL to grams" wearing older clothes. One cc of water is 0.998 grams at room temperature. One cc of honey is 1.43 grams. The unit persists in two places that rarely talk to each other: clinical notes, where syringes and drains are measured in cc, and engines, where displacement is quoted in cc. Both mean the same volume.

How This Calculator Works

Multiply the number of cubic centimetres by the density in grams per millilitre. Because 1 cc is 1 mL exactly, no conversion factor sits between the volume and the density — the multiplication is direct, and the density is the only measured quantity involved.

The Formula

Mass and volume through density

m = ρV, so V = m ÷ ρ

ρ is the density of the substance you choose, in grams per millilitre. It is a measured property, not a constant: water is 0.998 g/mL at 20 °C, olive oil 0.913, honey 1.43. Unit definitions on both sides are exact (1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, 1 US gallon = 231 in³), so every uncertainty in the answer comes from the density and none from the units.

Worked Example

A 10 cc syringe filled with water holds 9.98 g. Filled with olive oil it holds 9.13 g. A 1500 cc engine displaces 1.5 litres of air per two revolutions, which weighs about 1.8 g at sea level — a different substance again, and not one this page carries.

Key Insight

Clinicians were told for years to write mL instead of cc, because cc handwritten can be misread as "00" and turn a dose into a hundredfold error. The unit survives anyway, in speech and on older equipment, which is why a converter still needs to accept it. The substance question bites hardest in exactly that setting. A volume drained or infused is recorded as volume for a reason — nobody is weighing it — and turning that into a mass afterwards requires knowing what the fluid was. Blood, plasma and saline are not water and are not in this table, so the page will decline rather than approximate.

  • Flour, granulated sugar, potting soil and creatine are bulk solids whose density depends on packing. Packed and sifted flour differ by more than 40 percent, which is larger than the conversion itself, so no single number is offered.
  • Jet fuel is defined by ASTM D1655 and DEF STAN 91-091 as a spec band rather than a value, and neither standard is readable without paying for it. An aviation figure taken from a converter site would not be a source.
  • USDA states no temperature for the food densities. That is shown on the page rather than replaced with a plausible 20 °C.

Is 1 cc the same as 1 mL?

Yes, exactly. A cubic centimetre and a millilitre are the same volume by definition, so any cc-to-mass conversion is identical to the mL one.

How many grams is 1 cc?

Of water, 0.9982 g at 20 °C. Of whole milk 1.0313, of olive oil 0.913, of honey 1.43. The answer is the density, because 1 cc is 1 mL.

How many grams is 10 cc?

Ten times the density: 9.982 g of water, 14.3 g of honey. A 10 cc syringe is a common enough object that this is worth knowing in both directions.

Why do engines use cc?

Displacement is a swept volume, and cubic centimetres are a natural unit for it. A 1500 cc engine and a 1.5 litre engine are the same engine described two ways.

Can I convert cc of blood or saline to grams?

Not on this page. Neither is in the density table, and it declines rather than substituting water — which would be wrong by a few percent for saline and more for blood.

Should I write cc or mL?

mL, in any clinical context. Handwritten cc can be misread as 00, and that has caused hundredfold dosing errors. The unit is accepted here because people still search for it.
